Demsky

Toronto-born producer Demsky has been creating contemplative, downtempo electronica within deeply personal soundscapes for more than a decade. What began as a small-scale endeavour has evolved into an internationally touring project, with performances at festivals such as Wonderfruit in Thailand and Echoes of Earth in India.

Raised within Canada’s jam circuit, Demsky’s early foundation in improvisation continues to shape his approach to live performance. After relocating to Tokyo, he expanded his reach across Asia and Europe, performing in Malaysia, Taiwan, Singapore, and beyond. In Japan, he co-founded SentoSensations, an experimental festival held in Tokyo’s oldest bathhouse, bringing together boundary-pushing artists across Asia, with support from AiAiAi Audio and Baird Brewing.

Performing in unconventional spaces has pushed Demsky to develop a flexible and adaptive live approach. His sets are shaped as much by environment as they are by audience, treating the crowd not just as spectators but as an active reference point that informs transitions, pacing, and improvisation in real time.

As Your Heart Beats, released via Tanukineiri Records on vinyl and digital, explores themes of intuition, presence, and the organic unfolding of life. Inspired by the philosophy of Alan Watts, the project reflects on the rhythm of existence through both personal experience and global perspective. Recorded in part while touring through Poland and Czechia, the album was shaped by witnessing communities respond to the war in Ukraine, highlighting how instinct and circumstance redefine what truly matters.

In 2025, Demsky turns toward Jugaad, an ambient-driven concept that revisits his earlier explorations into downtempo while pushing further into experimentation. Derived from a Hindi word meaning a resourceful, improvised solution born from limitation, Jugaad embodies a philosophy of creation through constraint. In a musical context, it reflects working with nontraditional tools, recording in makeshift environments, and embracing imperfection as part of the process. The project reframes limitation as opportunity, where spontaneity, adaptation, and curiosity shape the final form. Rather than adhering to convention, Jugaad asks what music can become when intuition leads and structure follows.

The release has already garnered international attention, with coverage from Mixmag Asia, Plastic Magazine, Synthian, and Kindline Magazine. Mixmag Asia highlighted the project’s ability to blend atmosphere and intention into something quietly transformative, positioning Demsky as an artist navigating the space between introspection and innovation.
